2024-2025 URGSA General Election

 

It’s that time again for the University of Regina Graduate Students Association (URGSA) General Elections.

 

We are now accepting nominations for the 2024-25 URGSA Executive and council committee. 

 

The positions that are open for nomination include:

 

  • President

  • VP Academic Affairs

  • VP External Relations

  • VP Student Life

  • VP Finance

 

Council committee positions (only students of the corresponding faculty are eligible to apply): 

 

  • Arts

  • Education

  • Engineering & Applied Science

  • Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy

  • Kenneth Levene Graduate School of Business

  • Kinesiology & Health Studies

  • Media, Art, & Performance

  • Nursing

  • Science

  •  Social Work

 

We welcome you to get involved in the GSA by becoming a part of the GSA committee and helping to serve graduate students all year long. To apply, please send a nomination package to cro@ureginagsa.com by Sunday, Aug11th, 2024 at 11:59PM. Please read the instructions on the Nomination package carefully before submitting your nominations. Campaigning will run from Monday, Aug 12th, 2024 at 9:00 am to Friday, Aug 23rd 2024 at 11:59 pm.

Voting will take place via Election portal link between Saturday, Aug 24th 2024 at 9:00 am to Monday, Aug26th, 2024 at 9: 00 am.

 

The 2024-25 term will commence from Sep 1st 2024 and end Aug 31st 2025. The position of Graduate Student Executives and council members are mainly voluntary, but a small honorarium will be paid for your time and effort spent on URGSA's activities and planning.

The URGSA has appointed Nazmul Islam  former GSA Vice President of Student Life (2022-2023) as a Chief Returning Officer (CRO). As CRO, Nazmul  will help ensure that any disputes and conflicts are resolved fairly.

3 Minute Thesis

Join us for a thrilling showcase of innovation and intellect at this year's 3 Minute Thesis Competition, held at Darke Hall on Monday, March 25th, from 6-8 p.m. In a race against time, eight exceptional graduate students will condense years of research into captivating 3-minute presentations, offering a unique glimpse into the cutting-edge developments across diverse fields. Following the presentations, we will honor outstanding achievements with three distinguished awards, alongside a People's Choice Award, as voted by you, the audience.

Results : URGSA Election 2023-2024!

We are writing to extend our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to each and every one of you who participated in the URGSA (University Graduate Student Association) Election 2023-2024. Your active involvement in student democracy is commendable, and we are thrilled to see such enthusiasm for shaping the future of our institution.

We are pleased to announce the results of the URGSA Election 2023-2024:

  • VP External Affairs: Ahmed Mohammad won the position by securing an impressive 63 votes. We also congratulate Emefiena Chioma Deborah for her strong participation and for being the runner-up with 45 votes.

  • VP Student Life: Ara Radmehr emerged as the winner with an outstanding support of 77 votes. We also extend our congratulations to Sepideh Hashmi for being the runner-up with 30 votes.

  • VP Academic Affairs: Behnam Farzaneh has been acclaimed for this position. We appreciate his willingness to serve and contribute to the academic welfare of our graduate student community.

  • VP Finance: Abeer Ali has been acclaimed for this position. We applaud her dedication to managing the financial affairs of URGSA effectively.

  • President: Muhibullah has been acclaimed as the President of URGSA. We trust in his leadership and look forward to the positive changes he will bring to our organization.

Once again, we would like to express our gratitude and admiration for all candidates who put forth their names and campaigned tirelessly during this election. Your passion for serving your fellow students and making a difference in their lives is truly inspiring.

We would also like to acknowledge the support and engagement of all the students who exercised their right to vote. Your active participation is the cornerstone of a vibrant and democratic student community.

To cast your vote, please follow these steps:

    Enter your @uregina.ca email ID in the provided field.

  2. You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on your @uregina.ca email. Please check your inbox for this OTP.

  3. Enter the OTP in the designated field on the election website.

  4. Once verified, you will gain access to the current election ballot, which will display two questions on your screen.

Consistent with our constitution, and to maintain a fair and democratic process, the URGSA has appointed MUHAMMAD NOMAN SHARIF former GSA President (2018-2019) as a Chief Returning Officer (CRO). As CRO, Nauman Sharif will help ensure that URGSA Constitution and Bylaws are followed and that any disputes and conflicts are resolved with fairly according to the constitution and by-laws.
